Working together to maintain the temperament, health and utility of the German Shepherd Dog
Sierra Working Dogs is a group of working German Shepherd enthusiasts who both train and breed litters of working prospect GSD’s who can live in a family environment. We are located in Northern California in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Wenatchee GSD, Widerhall GSD, and Walburga GSD, do not make a living from dogs and breed only a small number of litters.
We are guided by many of the principles put forth by Capt. Max von Stephanitz, who is given credit for forming the dog we know today as the "German Shepherd Dog". His philosophy regarding the German Shepherd Dog can be found in the book "The German Shepherd Dog in Word and Pictures". In this book, written nearly 80 years ago the Captain wrote:
"The breeding of shepherd dogs is the breeding of working dogs; and this must always be the aim, or we shall cease to produce shepherd dogs."
This philosophy guides us in what we do today. In each puppy that we produce, we strive to better the breed with the principles set forth so many years ago.
